2008-2009 Legislative Agenda

 

Major Objectives

 

Ø A 5% COLA for active employees 

Ø A 3% average merit raise 

Ø State match to the deferred compensation program on behalf of permanent full time employees. 

Ø Step Pay Plan for active state employees 

Ø A COLA for retirees equal to the CPI as of Dec. 31, 2007 

Ø Maintain benefit and premium levels at their current levels while encouraging improvements in vision, hearing, and dental coverage for the State Health Plan 

Ø Increase state mileage and meal reimbursement rates 

 

Additional Requests of Significance

 

Ø Allow employees to accrue unlimited sick leave 

Ø Allow employees to donate sick leave to specific co-workers when authorized 

Ø Allow employees/retirees discount admission to state parks and recreation facilities 

Ø Allow employees/retirees free or discount classes at state supported institutions of higher learning when space is available 

Ø Increase the retirement formula 

Ø  Increase sick leave for additional service time at retirement from 90 to 120 days
 

Employees are essential in the effective delivery of services that South Carolina’s citizens desire.  State employees perform to very high standards, and rightly deserve competitive pay and benefits.  State retirees who provided distinguished service to this state deserve the same level of consideration.
